Hazelbrook Legal is a strategic legal advisory firm with offices in Canberra and Sydney.

What We Did

We were initially engaged for some specific HR support and ad-hoc recruitment. We have quickly become part of the team and are now their dedicated HR Partner on a retained basis for 1 day per week (which is delivered both virtually and in person).

As a part of our engagement we have or are delivering the following:
  • Review of polices and procedures
  • Development of a capability framework
  • Developing a clear progression pathway to senior lawyer, then Senior Associate and then Partnership to help to retain junior talent and give them direction.
  • In relation to the career path above, identify and deliver training for the skills the lawyers need to progress to each level.
  • Review the performance review process as to what the firm is doing well and what could be done better and in line with the new career path process above.
  • Focus on the structure of how performance reviews are completed and whether staff are tracking against guidelines.
  • Coaching of Senior Associates to partnership
  • Support and coach the CEO and Managing Partner with people issues and policies
  • Assist with performance management issues.
  • Check compliance with all awards that apply.
  • Support with recruitment of all roles – advertising, interviewing, reference checking and onboarding.
  • Management of their wellbeing program
  • Being their mental health first aid officer

The Results

From initially not thinking they needed much HR support we have delivered on most the above and have now become their trusted advisor, are on their website as their People and Wellbeing manager and are involved in all team meetings. We are their dedicated HR Partner.
